NEW CONSTRUCTION IN PLAIN DEALING

New construction is planned near the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 2 in Plain Dealing.

1. A new Dollar General Store has now opened (see photo below) We welcome this new addition to our community.

2. This triangle of land has been purchased by the town for an information Kiosk for the Highway Two Scenic byways. A new gazebo will contain information about the town and area.

3. A new mini-park with playground equipment is now open. (Photo below on left)

4. Construction has begun on the Outpost Truck Stop at the South City Limits on Highway 3.


Two neighborhood parties were held in Plain Dealing in observance of National Night Out on August 7. Over 150 persons attended the 2 gatherings. Photos shown here are from the celebration on East Mary Lee Street.


The Rita Sanders Keoun Public Library
The NEHEMIAH FOUNDATION is a non-profit organization that seeks to change the lives of the youth (grades 5-12) in Plain Dealing.
Through the LTF (Laying the Foundation) meetings youth are given the opportunity to hear dynamic speakers, participate in various activities, and interact with other youth. If you know of a child who would benefit in this program or if you would like to sponsor a child for $10 please contact one of the following foundation members:
Kathy Dillard, Sheila Bryant-Dupree, Charles Ford, Karla Ford, Sherry Ford, Kenneth Gay, Anthony Johnson, Harriet Johnson, Richard Seaton, Arthur Lee or Carolyn Taylor.
The Rita Sanders Keoun Public Library is located on the corner of Lynch and Mary Lee streets. In addition to books it houses a historical display and has 8 computers with internet access.
Hours are: 8:30-12:30, 1:30-5:30, Mon-Fri. and 8AM to Noon on Saturday.
Children's story time is on Wednesday at 10AM
The PLAIN DEALING LIONS CLUB is a service club of Lions International. Projects include eye research, eyeglasses, Leader Dogs, and other programs involving sight.
They sponsor a handicaped camp near Leesville. The club meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at Noon at the Plain Dealing City Hall meeting room.
The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Shoyla Bryant from Plain Dealing, Louisiana has been named a United States National Collegiate Award winner in education. This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain, in fact, the Academy recognizes fewer than 10% of all American college students. Shoyla, who attends Grambling State University, was nominated for this award by Dr. Elaine Foster, a professor at the college. Shoyla Bryant will appear in the United States Achievement Academy's Official Colegiate Yearbook, which is published nationally.
The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a professor or college official.
Shoyla Bryant is the daughter of Mrs. Shelia Dupree from Plain Dealing, Louisiana. The grandparents are Mr & Mrs Bobby Bryant of Plain Dealing, Louisiana
Next Month's Activities
An after School Tutoring Program is being held at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church. It is on Monday and the First United Methodist Church.

A community Easter Sunrise Worship Service is Planned for Easter Sunday, March 23rd at 7AM at the Plain Dealing City Lake.
Everyone is invited to attend and join in a tailgate breakfast following.
The Thursday evening before Easter, the traditional time for the Last Supper, the community is invited to gather at the First United Methodist Church for a community Communion Service with many of the local ministers assisting.
